Skills API

The Platform Skills API lets applications discover, validate, import, synchronize, version, and manage skills that can be used with Glean. These endpoints are generally available. A request does not need the X-Glean-Include-Experimental header.

Workspace access​

Operations that read or write a stored skill return 403 insufficient_permissions when the caller does not have access to Skills in the workspace. The response detail is Skills is not enabled for this workspace.

That check runs on:

  • GET /api/skills and POST /api/skills
  • GET, PATCH, and DELETE /api/skills/{skill_id}
  • GET /api/skills/{skill_id}/content
  • GET and POST /api/skills/{skill_id}/versions
  • GET /api/skills/{skill_id}/versions/{version}
  • GET /api/skills/{skill_id}/versions/{version}/content

POST /api/skills then checks whether the caller can create skills. Without that permission the detail is You do not have permission to create skills.

POST /api/skills/validation checks a bundle's structure and metadata and does not read or write stored skills, so it does not apply the workspace access check.

GitHub import and sync use one denial for a workspace where GitHub skill import is off and for a caller without Skills access:

  • POST /api/skills/import returns detail You do not have permission to import skills from GitHub.
  • POST /api/skills/{skill_id}/sync returns detail You do not have permission to sync skills from GitHub.

Source preview checks the two conditions separately. When GitHub skill import is off, POST /api/skills/sources/preview returns detail GitHub skill import is not enabled for this workspace. When GitHub skill import is on and the caller does not have access to Skills, the detail is You do not have permission to preview skill sources.

Import and preview also return You do not have permission to create skills. when the caller can reach the operation but cannot create skills.
